Logan Airport
Logan Airport Fall 2026 Runway Work and Pickup Guide
Updated October 2026
Quick answer
Massport is closing Runway 9-27 for about 75 days starting August 31, 2026, with the work expected to finish before Thanksgiving. Expect reduced runway capacity and possible delays, especially in afternoon and evening hours. Pre-arranged car pickups use designated points that differ by terminal, so send us your airline, flight number and terminal. Hourly service is $120 for a sedan and $150 for an SUV, 3-hour minimum.
This fall, Boston Logan is running with one of its runways out of service. Massport is completing safety work on Runway 9-27, and the airport has said travelers may see delays. If you are flying in or out of Boston between now and Thanksgiving, the practical question is not whether the work is happening, it is how to plan around a schedule that can slip.
This page lays out what Massport has published, what the work means for arrival and departure timing, where pre-arranged car pickups happen at each terminal, and how to book so your driver is waiting at the right place even when a flight is late. Everything attributed to Massport was checked against its own pages on the date shown above.
What Massport has announced about Runway 9-27
Massport states that Runway 9-27 will be closed for 75 days beginning August 31. The work is the second phase of FAA-required runway safety improvements, installing an Engineered Material Arresting System at the end of Runway 27. The first phase was completed last fall. Massport describes the system as lightweight, crushable material designed to safely stop an aircraft that overruns the runway, which matters at an airport so close to the water.
Massport expects the project to be complete before Thanksgiving. Its construction updates page lists the runway closure as running through November. We do not publish a specific reopening date because Massport has not given one on those pages, and weather can move any construction schedule.
What it means for delays
Massport says Logan will have reduced runway capacity during the closure and that travelers may experience delays, particularly during periods of inclement weather. Its construction updates page adds that delays may be most likely during afternoon and evening hours. It also advises travelers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
For a ground transportation plan, the useful takeaway is that a scheduled arrival time is less reliable than usual. A flight can land early, late or after a holding pattern, and a chauffeur booked against the schedule alone may be waiting at the wrong time. The fix is simple: give us the airline and flight number so the pickup follows the actual flight, and leave extra room in anything that depends on landing time, such as a meeting or a dinner reservation.
Departures work the other way. A delayed inbound aircraft can push your outbound flight, but you still need to be at the airport early enough to clear security. Do not move your car later on the assumption that the flight will be late. Check the status the morning of travel and decide then.
Where pre-arranged car pickups happen, by terminal
Massport states that limousine service at Logan is only available by prior reservation, and it lists designated pickup locations for each terminal. Arriving passengers are told to follow the signs for limos or ground transportation. The locations Massport publishes are below.
| Terminal | Limousine pickup location per Massport |
|---|---|
| Terminal A | Lot across from the curb on the Arrivals (lower) level |
| Terminal B | Curbside on the Departures (upper) level, between doors B-205 and B-208 |
| Terminal C | Central Parking Garage, limo stand on the ground level (follow the signs) |
| Terminal E | E Lot 2 on the Arrivals (lower) level |
Pickup points are as published by Massport and can change. Your confirmation will name the exact meeting instructions for your terminal.
Terminal E changes to know about
Terminal E is the terminal most international arrivals use, and it is also where Massport currently lists construction impacts. Massport reports that vestibules E101 and E102 are closed, that the Terminal E to Terminal C Arrivals level sidewalk closure is ongoing, and that the Terminal E taxi stand will be relocated to outside Door E107. It asks passengers to follow signage, allow extra travel time and be aware of their surroundings.
Those notices describe walkways and the taxi stand. They do not change the limousine pickup location Massport lists for Terminal E. Still, with doors closed and sidewalks rerouted, the walk from customs to the pickup area can take longer than you remember. Tell your chauffeur how many bags you have and whether anyone needs a slower pace, and expect to follow temporary signs.
Construction can change quickly. Before you travel, check the Massport roadway and construction updates page for the current list, since items are added and removed as work moves.
How the pickup actually works
Massport does not allow waiting at terminal curbs. Its guidance for private drivers is to proceed to the terminal only when the passenger is ready, and vehicles waiting at the curb may be asked to move by airport police. Its cell phone lot at 6 Tomahawk Drive has a 30-minute maximum wait and does not allow commercial vehicles, unattended vehicles or idling. That is why a reservation matters: the pickup is arranged ahead of time, not improvised at the curb.
Plan the handoff in three steps. Land and turn your phone on. Contact your chauffeur using the details in your confirmation once you have your bags. Then follow the signs to the terminal pickup point above. A working phone number on the reservation does more for a smooth pickup than anything else you can provide.
Timing advice for the next several weeks
For arrivals, book by flight number rather than by clock time, and tell us if the flight is a connection that could be rebooked. For international arrivals into Terminal E, plan on customs and baggage time before you reach the pickup point.
For departures, set your car by the airline check-in guidance and the traffic you expect, not by the departure time alone. Tunnel and highway conditions in and out of Logan vary through the day, and afternoon and evening are the periods Massport flags for flight delays.
If you have a tight connection on the other end, such as a ceremony, a hearing or a conference session, leave more room than you normally would. A buffer of an hour costs very little compared with arriving late.
Group arrivals are easier with one plan. If several people land on different flights, give us each flight number and choose a single meeting point, or book separate cars so no one waits on a late flight. Sprinter service is available for groups.
